The central Birmingham suburb of Edgbaston is located south east of Smethwick, south west of Harborne and west of Sparkbrook, and in the 19th century all four places held their own race meetings with varying degrees of success. Today it is more famous for its test cricket ground, but on Monday 10th November 1879 it held a race meeting, although races were confined to galloways and ponies. Whilst this is the only occasion races were held in Edgbaston, in the early 20th century the Edgbaston Tally-Ho Club organised point to point meetings in neaby Harborne. |
